Four Seahawks make All-CCC team

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) announced its 2019 Women's Lacrosse All-Conference Teams and major award winners Friday morning. Eight of the nine schools were represented on this year's list, led by CCC Regular-Season Champion Endicott's 10 selections.

The Gulls also took home two of this year's major awards as Jennifer Lacroix (Wrentham, Mass.) and Bella Rino (Northborough, Mass.) were named the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively. Wentworth's Sarah Galan (Colchester, Conn.) earned the Rookie of the Year nod, while the University of New England's Nichole Carvalho (South Kingstown, R.I.) was named the CCC Scholar-Athlete. Two coaches were named CCC Coach of the Year with Roger Williams' Jennifer Fox earning the nod for the second straight year, while Endicott's Maureen Spellman earned her first selection. Spellman's Endicott squad also earned the Team Sportsmanship award.

Voting for the All-CCC Teams and major awards was conducted by the nine CCC head women's lacrosse coaches following the conclusion of the regular season.

Salve Regina had four of its players make the All-CCC squad. Senior captain's Kerri Beland (Attleboro, Mass.) and Lindsey Smith (North Attleboro, Mass.) each make their first All-CCC squad, being named to the third team. Junior captain Maddie Villareal (Portsmouth, R.I.) makes her third All-CCC team and was named a third-team attack. Finally, the Seahawks leading scorer Kaity Doherty (Portsmouth, R.I.) was named to her first All-CCC team, making it as a second-team attack after ranking second in the CCC for goals scored (59).

"Congratulations to Kaity Doherty, Maddie Villareal, Lindsey Smith and Kerri Beland on making the 2019 All-CCC teams," said Salve Regina head coach Bill Villareal. "I was very excited to see these players selected as All-CCC players. This is a great accomplishment and represents their hard work and dedication to the sport of women's lacrosse."  

Salve Regina begins the 2019 postseason on the road as the sixth seed versus the third seeded University of New England on Saturday, April 27.
