WENHAM, Mass.—Junior Bailey Grinnell (South Hamilton, Mass.) continued her tear on Wednesday afternoon, scoring six goals for the third consecutive game as the Fighting Scots doubled up Salve Regina 12-6 at the Brigham Athletic Complex. The Fighting Scots improve to 5-3 and stay undefeated in Commonwealth Coast Conference play, while the Seahawks fall to 2-5 overall.

Gordon's top two goal scorers were active from the very start with Grinnell and Jessica Castelline (Concord, Mass.) each scoring in the first two minutes of regulation. Grinnell finished off a feed from Castelline with just a minute off the clock before her running mate scored on a free-position attempt 54 seconds later. Grinnell made it 3-0 Gordon just five minutes into the first half after a defensive stand by the Scots.

The Seahawks cut the lead with 19:11 left in the half on a good free-position goal by Jessie Severino (Branford, Conn.). Salve had another free-position attempt just a few minutes later, but Gordon's Jackie Kiernan (Lexington, Mass.) came up with a key save to keep the Seahawks from creeping closer.

MC Aston (Greenwich, N.Y.) made Salve Regina pay on the other end, getting the quick clear off of the save and finishing an arching pass from Megan Avery (Rochester, N.H.) to put the Scots back up by three goals.

After a scoreless stretch lasting eight minutes, Gordon's offense put together a flurry of goals to put the Seahawks in a precarious situation. Aston added her second with 8:55 on the clock and Grinnell put two more on the board over the next four minutes. Senior Abby Illian (Hillsdale, N.J.) finished off a 5-0 Gordon run with a power-play score with 4:04 remaining in the period.

The Seahawks offense came alive during the final two minutes of the half, as Kaitlin Gillespie (Haddam, Conn.) buried two shots in a one-minute span. Gordon headed into halftime with an 8-3 advantage.

Both teams came out of the break with a full on attack. Grinnell put her fifth goal on the board just 30 ticks in. Katie Kline (Brookfield, Conn.) answered right back for Salve Regina with an unassisted score, the 13th of her impressive rookie campaign. However, Gordon won the impending draw control and Castelline scored directly off of it for a 10-4 lead.

Gillespie completed a hat-trick in the 40th minute with an assist by Gina Tortorici (Deer Park, N.Y.) to cut Gordon's lead in half, but that would be as close as the Seahawks would get. Grinnell and Castelline would each score for the Fighting Scots down the stretch, while the Seahawks received one goal from Morgan McNulty (Durham, Conn.).

Josephine O'Reilly (Middletown, R.I.) took the loss for the Seahawks despite playing only 23 minutes. Katie Jones (Derry, N.H.) played with a steady hand in relief of O'Reilly, making 12 big saves to keep Salve in the game. Gordon's Kiernan made nine saves in the victory.

Salve Regina stays in CCC competition with a home contest against Nichols on Saturday at noon. Gordon has one of its stiffest tests of the season when they travel to Roger Williams on Saturday for a 1 p.m. draw.
