Seahawks glide to 11th win over Eagles, 17-3

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – The Salve Regina University women's lacrosse team jumped out to an 11-1 first half lead before gliding to a 17-3 victory over Daniel Webster College on Monday evening at Gaudet Field. The victory improves the Seahawks to a program-best 11-5 overall, while the Eagles fall to 5-8 on the season.

The Seahawks were led by senior Sarah Livingston (Westford, Mass.), who compiled a game-high eight points and six goals on the evening, while junior Jennifer Jones (Basking Ridge, N.J.) had four points (3g, 1a), a team-high three ground balls, and a game-best three caused turnovers. Sophomore goalie Josie O'Reilly (Middletown, R.I.) stopped 9-of-12 shots to earn her 11^th victory in net for the Seahawks.

Senior Natalie Bates (North Kingstown, R.I.) paced the Eagles with two goals and three ground balls, while Brandi Ritz (Burlington, N.J.) grabbed a team-best four draw controls in the loss. Freshman Allyssa Marson (Augusta, Maine) added a goal for the Eagles, while sophomore Teresa Moscati (Buffalo, N.Y.) took the loss in goal.

The Seahawks took control of the game early, as Jones scored the contest's first goal after just 10 seconds of play, sparking a run of five straight goals to open the game for Salve Regina.  Livingston totaled three goals and an assist during the five-goal stretch, while Jones added two goals and one assist.

Bates answered with a free position goal for the Eagles with 18:18 remaining in the half, cutting the Salve Regina lead down to 5-1.

The Seahawks responded with six consecutive goals, including two more by Livingston, to build an 11-1 advantage.

Bates once again ended the Salve Regina run, scoring an unassisted marker with just 40 seconds remaining in the period.

The Seahawks then closed out the half with a free position goal by sophomore Grace Kelly (Auburn, N.Y.) with just one second remaining on the clock to send the teams into the break with Salve Regina holding a 12-2 lead.

The Seahawks picked up right where they left off in the second half, scoring the opening four goals of the frame. Jones and Livingston got the scoring started, and were followed by a pair of goals from freshman Sarah Woods (East Lyme, Conn.) to give the Seahawks a commanding 16-2 advantage.

The Eagles added a free position goal by Marson with 2:26 left to play, while SRU's Alyssa Corvi (Barrington, R.I.) scored with just four seconds remaining to push the final score to 17-3.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday, hosting Becker at 4 p.m., while the Seahawks will take to the field on Saturday, welcoming Roger Williams University to Gaudet Field for the quarterfinal round of the CCC Championship tournament.
