MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (Friday, February 9, 2024)-- Women's ice hockey entered overtime tied 3-3 against Suffolk University, but it was the Rams who surged ahead for the 4-3 final and CCC win. After the conclusion of tonight's contest, the Seahawks have only two remaining games in the 2023-24 regular season.

The Seahawks celebrated senior night by honoring goalie Ellee Kopecky (Warren, R.I.) and forward Jennifer Rickard (Coventry, R.I.). Women's ice hockey also used the occasion to congratulate graduate student Maddie Cox (Barrington, R.I.) for playing her 100th career game.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: Suffolk 4, Salve Regina 3
Records: Salve Regina (10-10-3, 7-8-1 CCC), Suffolk (8-14-1, 7-8-1 CCC)
Last Contest: The Rams and Seahawks have seen each other twice so far in the 2023-24 season. On November 3, 2023, Salve Regina shutout Suffolk 2-0 and the next day the Seahawks won 4-3.

BREAKDOWN:

The Rams got out to an early 2-0 lead despite a scoreless first period. Following a shot attempt going just wide, sliding around the boards the Seahawks retained possession and brought the buck forward from the blue line. Emily Wroblewski passed over to Ashtyn Bringardner who sunk the puck into Suffolk's net at 13:07 into the second period, getting the Seahawks on the board. Just under five minutes later Maddie Cox took advantage of a power play opportunity and netted Salve Regina's second goal of the night. The Seahawks and the Rams entered the third period with a 2-2 tie.

Salve Regain struck first in the third period. Riley Esposito expertly brought the puck behind the Rams' net and made a quick pass to Gina Richard who maneuvered it past Suffolk's Lily O'Neil for a goal. But in a countermove, Rams' Jenna Caballero brought it to a tie once again and with no further scoring actions it was a 3-3 game going into overtime. After several line changes for both teams, the Rams broke away and with a quick pass from Elise Wainwright to Bella Schmidt in front of Salve Regina's goals the Rams slipped the puck into the Seahawks goal for a 4-3 Suffolk win.
