No. 14 Gulls blank Seahawks 4-0

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (Friday, January 19, 2024)-- Women's ice hockey managed to hold off the Endicott College Gulls for a period, but Endicott took the opportunity to score one minute into the second period and didn't look back. 

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: Salve Regina 0, Endicott 4
Records: Salve Regina (8-6-3, 5-4-1 CCC), Endicott (11-4-2, 8-2-0 CCC)
All-Time Series: Before puck drop Salve Regina was 1-16-2 all-time against the Gulls. When the teams met on Saturday, December 09, 2023, the Gulls won 5-2.

BREAKDOWN: 

The day began with a scoreless first period. The Gulls came right out of the gate outshooting the Seahawks 14-2, but Salve Regina stayed in the game. Sydney Baxter was peppered by the gulls but held them off for the entire first period. Early in the second period Gulls' Emmerson Hayes skated up to just in front of the crease, passing the puck to Samantha Fantasia for a left side goal, setting Endicott ahead 1-0. Salve Regina held firm, not allowing another goal until 16:31 into the period. Teagan hall's Gull goal made it a 2-0 game with one period remaining to play. With five minutes gone in the final period, the Gulls crowded the net, Baxter making an initial save, but Endicott took advantage of a loose puck to score their third goal of the evening from Quin Healy. The final scoring action came just one minute later when Mackenzie Graham brought the score to 4-0 in favor of the nationally ranked Gulls. 

NOTEWORTHY:

  • The Gulls outshot the Seahawks 48-10 across three periods. 
  • Endicott took 23 shots during the second period, their highest shots on goal of any period. 
  • The Seahawks recorded four shots on goal during both the second and third periods.
  • Salve had no power play opportunities. The Gulls went 0-2 on the power play.

Tomorrow the Seahawks will make the trip up to Beverly, Massachusetts for a 3 p.m. puck drop against Endicott.
