NEWPORT, R.I.- The American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) is once again recognizing varsity ice hockey players who compiled exceptional results in the classroom during the 2020-21 season with the announcement of the fifth annual "Krampade All-American Scholars."

Due to the effects of Covid-19, the AHCA adopted revised criteria for this year's honorees. To qualify, a student-athlete must have attained a 3.6 GPA for each semester, regardless of whether the school's hockey team was able to play this season or not.

"We made a decision to include all hockey players who met the academic standard, whether their team was allowed to play or not," said AHCA executive director Joe Bertagna. "Those who were denied a chance to compete have already been disadvantaged and we did not want to add to their situation."

450 student-athletes qualified for Division III women's ice hockey including 12 from Salve Regina University: Carley Bauckham, Sophie Beauchesne, Colby Lopez-BalboaMaddie CoxKaitlyn Fox, Emma Gotthelf, Rebecca Hasting, Dakota McMahon, Brynn MendesGrace Schwartz, Paige Stapleton, and Emily Wagner.

"I am very proud of these student athletes who have made the ACHA All-American Scholar List," said head coach David Lun. "In a normal year this is quite an accomplishment. However, this past year has been anything but normal. Considering all the challenges with navigating a pandemic both athletically and academically, this honor is especially noteworthy. The commitment these young women have shown to adapt and thrive in a challenging environment speaks volumes to their character and steadfastness. I'm very happy to see them all be acknowledged for their work, and very excited to see this energy and enthusiasm on display in the classroom and on the ice in the coming academic year!"
