NEW LONDON, Conn. - Freshman Casey Godfrey (Redondo Beach, Calif.) scored her first collegiate goal and was among four Camels to find the back of the net as the Connecticut College women's ice hockey team blanked Salve Regina University, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon at Dayton Arena.

The Camels got on the board with a short-handed goal in the final minutes of the first period then bookended the second period with a pair of even-strength goals. The Seahawks began the third with a successful penalty kill but surrendered the fourth and final goal at full strength moments later.

Neither special teams unit found success offensively, each going 0-for-4 on the power play.

Sophomores Abby Wieczorek (Winntetka, Ill.) and MJ Peters (El Granada, Calif.) combined for the shutout for Connecticut College, which outshot its opponent by a 41-19 margin. Wieczorek earned the win by making 15 saves, and Peters registered four shots in relief. Sophie Beauchesne (Nottingham, N.H.) suffered the loss for Salve Regina despite recording 30 saves in less than 40 minutes of action. Junior netminder Madison Jalbert (Beverly, Mass.) saw the final 20 minutes of action between the pipes and recorded seven saves.

The game was the first for Salve Regina athletics since play was suspended in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the first for new head coach David Lun.

Connecticut College (3-0) currently has no more games remaining on its schedule and Salve Regina (0-1) will continue to train in preparation for a full return to play in the fall of 2021.
