Summary
MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - The Salve Regina University women's ice hockey tied Nichols College 2-2 in Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) action to secure a home game in the CHC tournament next week.

Series and Streaks
Salve Regina leads the all-time series 18-5-3 all-time, however the Bison have gone 5-0-2 in the last seven.

Three Stars of the Game

  1. Salve Regina freshman Maddie Cox (Barrington, R.I.) scored her sixth goal of the season to give the Seahawks a 2-0 lead in the second period.
  2. Nichols junior Mel McAleer (Hanson, Mass.) scored her team-leading 12th goal of the season in the third period to knot the game 2-2.
  3. Salve Regina sophomore Madison Jalbert (Beverly, Mass.) made a game-high 34 saves to improve to 5-16-1 in net.

Turning Point
Maddie Cox scored on the power play at 8:35 of the second giving the Seahawks a 2-0 lead. The Bison came up empty on an ensuing power play then had to withstand a Seahawks advantage that could have extended the lead. Shortly after the Seahawks power play ended Kara Santoro (Wolcott, Conn.) snuck a shot home to cut the deficit to one at 15:30.  Early in the third McAleer knotted things up at 2-2 with a rocket from the blue-line that deflected in. Despite outshooting the Seahawks the Bison were not able to beat Jalbert again who was fantastic in the third period and overtime to help the Seahawks secure a point in the standings and home-ice in the first round of the CHC tournament.
