Connecticut Col. 2, Salve Regina 0
St. George's - Middletown, R.I.
Tuesday, November 28, 2017

Summary
Visiting Connecticut College, ranked No. 8 in the nation, used a first period goal and an empty net tally in the third period to secure a 2-0 victory over the Salve Regina University women's ice hockey team in a non-conference meeting Tuesday evening.

Series and Streaks
The Camels own a 9-3-3 record in the all-time series and have won three in a row over the Seahawks while amassing a 4-1-1 record in the last six meetings.

Three Stars of the Game

  1. Salve Regina junior Jennifer O'Connell (Marstons Mills, Mass.) made 41 saves in the game while allowing just one goal.
  2. Connecticut sophomore Kylie Wilkes (Howell, N.J.) scored her second goal of the season at 9:16 of the first period, which proved to be the game-winning goal.
  3. Connecticut senior Lilly Connolly (Duxbury, Mass.) scored on the empty net with 37 seconds left to seal the victory for the Camels.

Key Stat of the Game
The Camels outshot the Seahawks 43-9 in the game.

Turning Point
Trailing 1-0 since the first period, the Seahawks played with incredible energy and urgency for the duration of the third period in search of the equalizer. The Seahawks generated some of their best scoring chances of the game as the period wore on but shots either just missed, or were blocked by the defense, keeping the Seahawks off the board. With 1:15 left to play the Seahawks pulled O'Connell for the extra skater, but Lilly Connolly intercepted the puck at center and fed it into the empty net to seal the win for the Camels.

Quick Hits

  • Dylann Nasr (Reston, Va.) made nine saves in the contest, her first of the season, to earn the victory.
  • Wilke's goal came after a shot from the point was tipped in front, bouncing next to the goal, where she was able to jam it past O'Connell in a crowd of Seahawks for the game's first score.
  • Neither team could find success on the powerplay. The Seahawks went 0-for-1 on their lone chance while killing off three second-period penalties to hold the Camels to 0-for-3 with the advantage.
  • The Seahawks blocked 12 shots in the game, while the Camels blocked three.
