Summary
The visiting Manhattanville College women's ice hockey team scored two early goals en route to a 3-1 victory over Salve Regina University in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action Friday night.

Series and Streaks
This was the 33rd meeting between the two teams. The Valiants now own a 26-7-0 record in the all-time series and have won four straight over the Seahawks.

Three Stars of the Game
1 - Manhattanville junior Karly Kapur (Sparta, N.J.) - scored her fifth and sixth goals of the season. First to open the scoring in the first period, then again in the second for what would be the final margin.
2 - Manhattanville sophomore Rose Pijaca (Worcester, Mass.) - made 26 saves to improve to 4-1-1 on the season. She made manly timely notably turning away two breakaway chances for the Seahawks.
3 - Salve Regina sophomore Taylor Chisholm (Discovery Bay, Calif.) - scored her fifth goal of the season in the first period, the only score for the Seahawks on the night.

Turning Point
After drawing with a goal late in the first period the Seahawks came out energized to begin the second and were outshooting the Valiants through the first seven minutes. After a save from Pijaca, Nicole Mensi (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) collected a loose puck in the left wing side and darted up the ice. Carrying the puck wide over the blue line she caught inside towards the net, freeing herself for a shot. Salve Regina netminder Jennifer O'Connell (Marstons Mills, Mass.) made the save but the puck jetted off to her right and straight to Karly Kapur who fired home the rebound for her second tally of the night. The goal reestablished a two goal lead for the Valiants and sucked away the Seahawks momentum.

Quick Hits

  • The Seahawks were again excellent on the penalty kill, holding the Valiants to 0-for-4 on the powerplay. The Seahawks have now killed off 17 straight penalties.
  • Manhattanville also held the Seahawks to 0-for-6 on the powerplay.
  • The Seahawks did have life late in the game, pulling O'Connell for a 6-on-4 after the Valiants were called for tripping with less than three minutes to play. A cross checking major at 17:58 gave the Seahawks a 6-on-3 but the Valiant defense, led by Pijaca were able to turn the Seahawks away and preserve the 3-1 victory.
  • O'Connell, who leads the NEHC in saves, made 29 for the Seahakws to bring her season total 508.
  • After being outshot 7-6 in the first period the Valiants responded by outshooting the Seahawks 17-9 in the second period and 32-27 in the game.
  • Nicole Mensi assisted on both of Kapur's goals, giving her 15 points on the season, pacing all Valiant skaters.
  • Erika Martin (Berkley, Mass.) recorded her fourth assist on the season on Chisholm's goal. She leads the Seahawks in assists this season.
