MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – Senior Rachel Porter (Franklin, Mass.) has skated her way into Salve Regina women's ice hockey record book as she led the Seahawks to a 4-0 victory over UMass Boston with two assists and a goal, Friday evening in Middletown, R.I.

Porter's three points Friday night boosted her career total to 98 to surpass Caitlin Campbell '09 as the all-time points scorer for Salve Regina. The senior already holds the career assists record, set earlier this season.

Porter had to wait almost two full periods to break the school's record as she added an assist on senior Sarah McCusker's (Havertown, Pa.) third goal of the season at the 16:49 mark in the middle period. Porter sent the puck to sophomore Sarah Markey (Ashland, Mass.) who set up the power play goal for McCusker.

The Beacons had several scoring opportunities to score in the beginning of the third period with two power plays in the first 5:33, holding 5-2 advantage on the ice at for about a minute while three Seahawks served time in the penalty box. Senior goalie Ali Muehlbronner (Glenside, Pa.) turned away four shots over that time.

After a face off was won by the Beacons at 6:13 in the third, Salve Regina took control and pushed its lead to 2-0. Freshman Cheyenne Boyd (Phoenix, Ariz.) found the puck in front of the net and sent it past Beacon goalie, sophomore Kailyn Burke (Franklin, Mass.).

Even with a 2-0 lead, the Seahawks kept the pressure on UMass Boston, as Salve Regina sent five shots her way over the next four minutes. The Beacons tested Muehlbronner with eight shots over the next seven minutes of action and Muehlbronner turned away every one of the Beacons' shots.

Even shorthanded the Seahawks found the net to extend their lead to 3-0. Porter increased her point total with her sixth-goal of the season off a pass from Markey.

With 1:44 to play, the Beacons tried to cut into the Seahawk lead with an extra attacker after pulling their goalie, but Salve Regina's freshman Kelsey Lynch (Collegeville, Pa.)  took a break away pass from Porter and scored from just inside the blue line.

Muehlbronner made 33 saves in her 13th win of the season while Burke made 23 saves while suffering the loss for UMass Boston.

The Beacons return to action when they wrap up a two-game road series with a trip to Worcester, Mass. to face Holy Cross on Feb. 2. Salve Regina gets back on the ice when the Seahawks host St. Anselm tomorrow as they honor their seven seniors. The opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m.
