The Salve Regina University women's ice hockey team received markers from 10 different players on its way to setting a program record for goals in a game during a 13-2 season opening victory over Franklin Pierce on Friday night. The Seahawks smashed their previous mark of 10 goals set in 2003 versus MIT.

Freshman Shelby Johnson (Sterling, Mass.) led the way, notching a hat trick in her first collegiate contest, compiling four points on three goals and an assist. Senior Rachel Porter (Franklin, Mass.), freshman Molly O'Sullivan (Duxbury, Mass.), sophomore Michaela Chiuccariello (Winchester, Mass.), sophomore Sarah Markey (Ashland, Mass.), senior Sarah McCusker (Havertown, Pa.), and senior Melanie Sherlock (Colorado Springs, Colo.) each tallied three points apiece, while senior Ali Muehlbronner (Glenside, Pa.) made 13 saves to earn the victory in net.

The Seahawks scored four times in the opening period before putting the game away with six more markers in the second period. Salve Regina went on to break its program record for goals by tacking on three more tallies in the third period, sealing the 13-2 victory in the process.

The Seahawks will return to the ice for their home opener Saturday night versus SUNY Potsdam at St. George's Ice Arena.
