Eight Seahawks named to ECAC All-Academic Team

Kendra Andrie became a three-time ECAC All-Academic Team selection

CENTERVILLE, Mass. - The Salve Regina University women's ice hockey team placed eight student-athletes on the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women's East All-Academic Team.

Seniors Kendra Andrie (Muskegon, Mich.), Kristen Cokely (Cambridge, Mass.), Danika Williams (Fairbanks, Alaska), and Sarah Small (Medfield, Mass.) joined junior Jen Thiesing (Sandwich, Mass.) and sophomores Ali Muehlbronner (Glenside, Pa.), Melanie Sherlock (Colorado Springs, Colo.), and Kelsey Talty (Fairport, N.Y.). The four seniors, along with Thiesing, are repeat selection while Andrie, Cokely, Small and Williams were each named to the team in 2008-09, making them three-time selections.

Andrie is a chemistry major who placed second head coach Michael Cox's squad with 15 points (9-6-15) in 25 games. Last weekend, Andrie was honored with the Salve Regina University Distinguished Senior Scholar-Athlete Award, which is presented annually to the senior female student-athlete with the highest grade point average (GPA).

Cokely is an administration of justice major who tallied 10 points (4-6-10) in 25 games in 2010-11. Small dished out four assists in 26 games and is a business major while Williams racked up 10 points (2-8-10) in 26 games as an education major.

Thiesing is a biology major who notched three points (1-2-3) in 26 games last season. Muehlbronner led the Seahawks in wins (seven), goals against average (2.40), and save percentage (.911) in 16 games (13 starts) as a biology major. Sherlock placed second on the team with 10 goals in 26 games while majoring in chemistry, and Talty is a business studies major who appeared in 22 games as a sophomore.

A total of 83 student-athletes from the conference's 11 institutions were named to the team. Manhattanville led the way with 11, followed by Castleton with nine, Holy Cross, New England College, Nichols, Norwich, Saint Michael's and Salve Regina with eight each, UMass Boston with six, Southern Maine with five, and Saint Anselm with four.

To be named to the all-academic team, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.00 on a 4.00 scale, and have competed in at least one-half of his team's games during the regular season.

The Seahawks finished the 2010-11 season 10-13-3 overall and 9-7-2 in the ECAC.
