NEWPORT, R.I. (February 10, 2022) - Trailing 5-0 in the early minutes, Salve Regina University women's basketball sophomore Amanda Folan (North Attleboro, Mass.) hit a 3-pointer at 8:39 to kick off a 13-0 run for the Seahawks, but the visiting University of New England overcame a first quarter deficit to go up double-digits and stay ahead for an 83-54 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) victory at the Rodgers Recreation Center on Thursday evening.

Salve Regina (9-11, 8-6 CCC) went up eight (13-5) and led by four (26-22) after the first 10 minutes. Nor'easter senior Abby Cavallaro (South Portland, Maine) hit a trey at the buzzer to cut the deficit from seven to four. The Seahawks had won the earlier meeting this season in January, 66-56, in Biddeford, Maine, for their first win over the Nor'easters since 2012.

Folan had 10 points after the first quarter on four-of-five from the floor including two treys. Morgan Shuey's (Corning, Iowa) steal and layup gave Salve Regina its largest lead of the game at 5:21 mark.

An 11-0 run to begin the second quarter burst UNE into a 33-26 lead. Free throws from Seahawk freshman and reigning CCC rookie of the week, Ashley Rourke (Londonderry, N.H.), pulled the hosts within five, but that's the closest Salve Regina would get. Jordyn Franzen (Salem, N.H.) hit a pull up jumper in the paint to usher in the first double-digit lead (41-31; 2:35 remaining in the second), and the Nor'easters maintained that advantage the rest of the game.

Allie Goodman (Durham, Maine) hit a 3-pointer to open the second-half scoring. Shuey hit from 3-point range to close the third period.

Both teams enjoyed season-highs in threes - University of New England (14-8, 12-3 CCC) had six different players combine for 13 trifectas with seven from Cavallaro; Salve Regina had a dozen 3-pointers with Rourke (5), Shuey (4), and Folan (3) contributing from long range.

Cavallaro led all scorers with 21 points (seven of 10 from 3-point range). Kaylee Bayor (Hinesburg, Vt.) had 18 points and eight rebounds. Franzen finished with 13 points and a game-high six assists. Goodman and Juliana Tracey (Quincy, Mass.) both had 11 points.

Rourke led the Seahawks with 19 points including 50 percent from 3-pointers (5-of-10). Shuey had 16 and Folan had 14 for the Seahawks. Briana Neary (Wayne, N.J.) had a team-high six rebounds for Salve Regina.
