NEWPORT, R.I. (February 8, 2022) - Salve Regina University women's basketball led for half of the first quarter against visiting Roger Williams University, but the Hawks kept the Seahawks in single digits in each subsequent quarter finishing with a 73-33 win in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Rodgers Recreation Center on Tuesday evening.

Junior Kendi Barnard (Bedford, N.H.) got the scoring started with a layup on an assist from sophomore Katie Galligan (Pembroke, Mass.). Reigning CCC rookie of the week, Ashley Rourke (Londonderry, N.H.), drained a trey with an assist from junior captain Megan Henaghan (Whitman, Mass.). Seahawk junior captain Morgan Shuey (Corning, Iowa) converted a steal by Briana Neary (Wayne, N.J.) into a layup with an assist from Rourke. Shuey later had a 3-pointer as both teams scored on their first three possessions.

The first missed shot did not come until over two minutes into the contest.

Salve Regina (9-10, 8-5 CCC) led 10-6 at 6:17 following a pair of free throws from Shuey. Roger Williams (20-1, 15-0 CCC) retook the lead after a pair of free throws from Galligan at 4:24. Henaghan's jump shot outside the paint tied the score at 13-13 with just over a minute remaining in the first. The Hawks led by two (15-13) after the first, and then a Neary layup at 7:24 in the second brought the Seahawks within two (19-17) before Roger Williams finished the period with 14 unanswered points.

Roger Williams had its best offensive output in the third quarter (23-7) and led by 32 heading into the final 10 minutes.

Galligan shared game-high scoring honors with sophomore teammate Caroline Elie (pronounced EE-lee) (Rockland, Mass.), both with 16 points. The Hawks had five treys from five different players. Barnard grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds as Roger Williams dominated the boards, 52-29. Henaghan led the Seahawks with nine caroms, all off the defensive glass.

Salve Regina plays its second of three straight home games on Thursday (6 p.m.) when it hosts University of New England.
