Nor'easters strong first half holds up against Seahawks

NEWPORT, R.I. (January 25, 2020) -- University of New England senior Sadie Nelson (Windham, Maine) scored a game-high 26 points as the Nor'easters defeated Salve Regina University, 60-47, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's basketball action at the Rodgers Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon.

Series and Streaks
Nor'easters leads the all-time series, 25-11. The Nor'easters have won the last 18 meetings over an eight-year span.

Three Stars of the Game

  1. Nor'easter senior guard Sadie Nelson (Windham, Maine) made nine-of-17 from the floor, including two treys, and all six free throws for a game-high 26 points. She also shared game-high rebounding honors (nine) with teammate Sierra Tartre (Kennebunk, Maine).
  2. Seahawk senior Torie Scorpio (Cranston, R.I.) made five field goals, including two 3-pointers, and had team-highs in rebounds (six) and assists (five).
  3. Nor'easter junior Sierra Tartre (Kennebunk, Maine) led her team in rebounds (nine) and assists (four) in less than 18 minutes of playing time.

Turning Point
Sadie Nelson's 3-pointer at the 4:20 mark in the first quarter put the Nor'easters up 7-5, and after Noelle Mancini's (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) layup tied the score, Faith Connors (North Andover, Mass) nailed a deep three to start an 8-0 run for the visitors. Salve Regina got as close as three points on two more occasions following 3-pointers from Scorpio and Gabby Sousa (Hudson, N.H.) in the first minute of the second quarter.
