NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina University women's basketball team hosts Bridgewater State University at 1 p.m. at the Rodgers Recreation Center in Newport, R.I., on Saturday, December 1, in non-league action.

LAST TIME OUT
DUDLEY, Mass. - Torie Scorpio (Cranston, R.I.) and Kerri Beland (Attleboro, Mass.) hit 3-pointers on consecutive fourth-quarter possessions for Salve Regina University against Nichols College, but the Seahawks could not hold onto a late three-point lead over the Bison who won the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener, 51-50.

SEAHAWKS NOTES FROM THE NEST

  • Seniors Kerri Beland and Liv Pierce are serving as captains for head coach Cori Hughes in her 12th season.
  • The Seahawks were victorious last Sunday in Dallas, Pa., with a second-half rally against Gwynedd Mercy (73-59), outscoring the Griffins on neutral court, 51-32, in the final 20 minutes.
  • Torie Scorpio led all players with a career-high 28 points and earned all-tournament accolades as well as Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Week.
  • Kerri Beland had a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds.
  • Tara Burke also contributed 12 points in the Seahawk victory.
  • Beland (18.0) and Lauryn Becker (10.0) are both averaging double-figure scoring for the first six Seahawk games.

BEARS BITS

  • On Thursday night, Sara DaSilva paced Bridgewater State with 15 points, six rebounds and five assists, while Danielle Arcidiacono came off the bench to score 14 points to go along with three boards, five assists and four steals, in a double-overtime victory against Suffolk (68-58).
  • Arcidiacono went 4-for-8 from behind the arc including a trio of clutch three pointers in the overtime sessions.

INSIDE THE SERIES
Today's non-league matchup marks the ninth meeting in women's basketball between Salve Regina and Bridgewater State. It's been 16 years since the last meeting, won by the Seahawks on their not-yet two-year-old hardwood court in the Rodgers Recreation Center. This is only the fourth visit by the Bears to Newport for women's basketball since 1982. Both teams come into today with one win on the season.
