NEWPORT, R.I. - The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) has selected Salve Regina University freshman guard Torie Scorpio (Cranston, R.I.) as its rookie of the week for women's basketball for week ending January 22, 2016.

Rookie of the Week - Scorpio opened her week with a career-high 25 points in a decisive victory over Nichols on Tuesday (Jan. 17). She was 8-for-12 (66.7 percent) from the field overall including three 3-pointers. She also recorded her first collegiate double-double as she grabbed 11 rebounds. Scorpio also had four assists in the game. Later in the week, the first-year player had 13 points and eight rebounds as the Seahawks fell to the University of New England, 57-45, in conference play. Over the two games Scorpio averaged 19.0 points per game on 13-of-25 (52.0 percent) shooting, while grabbing 9.5 rebounds per game.

Salve Regina (5-12, 3-7 CCC) travels to Springfield, Mass., on Wednesday to face the Golden Bears of Western New England University before returning home for a Saturday rematch with Curry College.
