Summary
NEWPORT, R.I. - In its first ever visit to Newport, Rhode Island for women's basketball, Smith College defeated Salve Regina University, 66-25, in non-league action at the Rodgers Recreation Center. Freshman Kennedy Guest-Pritchett (Fairburn, Ga.) led all players with a double-double (15 points, 16 rebounds) as the Pioneers improved to 7-3 overall and 5-0 on the road. Salve Regina (2-8) was led by senior Sam Gisonni (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) with 11 points and eight rebounds in a reserve role.

The Pioneers win the first ever meeting in women's basketball between the two schools.

  1. Smith freshman Kennedy Guest-Pritchett (Fairburn, Ga.) led all players with a double-double (15 points, 16 rebounds) on seven of 12 from the floor.
  2. Smith sophomore Meghan Holland (Atherton, Calif.) came off the bench to contribute 10 points on four of six from the floor including two-for-two behind the 3-point arc.
  3. Salve Regina senior Sam Gisonni (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) set career highs in both points (11) and rebounds (eight) while playing 27 minutes off the bench.

Smith held Salve Regina to under 20 percent shooting from the field (10-56; 17.9 percent) and the Seahawks had their lowest offensive output in the history of the program.

After Salve Regina held Smith to seven points in the second quarter, the Pioneers opened the second half on a 7-0 run in the first 2:55 of the period.

  • The Pioneers, who earlier this season scored their most points in program history (111, in an overtime win at Westfield State), held the Seahawks to their lowest offensive output ever (25). Salve Regina's most recent game before today saw a season-high 88 points in a Seahawk victory at Fisher College (Dec. 12).
  • Smith is undefeated on the road in 2016-17 (5-0) while Salve Regina has yet to win at the Rodgers Recreation Center this season (0-4).
