CCC Rookie of the Week: Tara Burke

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) has selected Salve Regina University freshman Tara Burke (Londonderry, N.H.) as its Rookie of the Week for women's basketball (Jan. 18-24) as announced by commissioner Gregg Kaye.

Rookie of the Week - Burke and Salve Regina went 2-0 in conference play this week. Burke averaged 16.0 points and 7.5 rebounds. On Tuesday (Jan. 19) against Nichols, she made eight of her 12 field goals and collected a career-high 21 points. She also corralled seven rebounds. She scored in double-digits again on Saturday picking up 11 points against Curry and grabbing eight rebounds.

"Tara has really come on in the second semester for us," said Cori Hughes, Seahawk head coach. "Her teammates are getting her the ball, and she's finishing off tough shots for us – battling inside. She is an excellent rebounder and strong defender. She's leading our team with charges taken from the center position! I'm glad to learn she has been recognized by the conference for her outstanding play."

Salve Regina (7-10; 6-4 CCC) has won three straight conference games and returns from its two-game road trip with a pair of league matches at the Rodgers Recreation Center - hosting Roger Williams University on Wednesday and Endicott College on Saturday. Both games will be broadcast by Bobb Angel on WADK-AM 1540 and the Salve Regina Sports Network.
