Series and Streaks
Salve Regina had won the first seven meetings between the two schools by an average margin greater than 24 points. Johnson & Wales wins for the first time in the all-time series, now 1-7 against Salve Regina.

Three Stars of the Game
1 – Johnson & Wales junior Bobbie Whitehead (Brooklyn, N.Y.) - recorded a double-double with game-highs in points (20) and rebounds (14).
2 – Salve Regina senior Meaghan Harden (Sandwich, Mass.) - inched closer to the program's all-time scoring record with her second consecutive double-double (13 points, 12 rebounds).
3 – Johnson & Wales sophomore Sarah Duryea (Middle Village, N.Y.) - scored 11 points with a game-high three 3-pointers (3-for-4 from the floor).

Key Stat of the Game
Seahawks turned the ball over 22 times, and struggled from the charity stripe with 14 missed free-throw shots (11-of-25).

Turning Point
The score was 2-0 in favor of Johnson & Wales until 6:10 left in the first quarter before Salve Regina got on the board. Seahawks led 4-2 after a Deanna McCarvell (New London, Conn.) layup and then 7-6 after McCarvell's 3-pointer (2:13 in 1st). Trailing by six (16-10) at the start of the 2nd quarter, Salve Regina scored the first basket in the period on a Kerri Beland (Attleboro, Mass.) layup, but Whitehead, who had a double-double before halftime, led the Wildcats on a 17-6 run before the break.

Quick Hits

  • Salve Regina's Harden needs just 11 points to become her school's all-time scoring leader (Alyssa Ricci '99 - 1,578 points); she'll get her next oppotunity to break the record at home.
  • Ashley Thompson (Bellingham, Mass.) joined her teammates Duryea and Whitehead in double-figure scoring with 11 points.
  • This is the first 0-3 start at Salve Regina for head coach Cori Hughes in her ninth season. Seahawks started 0-2 in 2011 before an eight-point win against Mount Ida at Keene State.
  • Salve Regina won the battle of the boards, 47-to-41. Harden had a game-high 11 caroms on the defensive side.

Quotes
"It comes down to free throws and turnovers - two things you have most control over - and we did poorly in both. Johnson & Wales played well, but we gave them too many points off turnovers (17) and we missed too many free throws (14). And most times when you control the battle on the boards (Salve Regina led 47-41 in rebounding), you should win." - Salve Regina head coach Cori Hughes
