Seahawks languish against Langmeyer

NEWPORT, R.I. (Friday, April 19, 2024) - Sophomore Caroline Langmeyer (Upper Arlington, Ohio) totaled 8.1 innings pitched with 15 strikeouts and picked up two victories as Massachusetts Institute of Technology swept Salve Regina University, 6-0 and 10-7, in NEWMAC softball action at Toppa Field on Friday afternoon.

Morganti Bello (Corte Madera, Calif.) picked up a pair of doubles against Langmeyer in the opener. In the nightcap, Langmeyer entered in the bottom of the sixth with the score tied (6-6) and Seahawks on the corners and her counterpart, Emily Cronin (Coventry, R.I.) singled in the go-ahead run with Emily Lane (Tinton Falls, N.J.) coming home. After striking out the next batter to end the sixth, Langmeyer's offensive mates rallied for four in the top of the seventh and the sophomore righty struck out the side in the bottom of the frame to complete the sweep.

  • T1 - MIT loaded the bases with none out on back-to-back singles by Nicole Johnston and Mikayla Cable and a walk to Mackenzie Bivin. Kylie Lanteri snared a line drive at third for the first out. Hailey Basso caught a line drive to right field for the second out and the Seahawks nearly escaped the inning without damage but they came up short on doubling up Cable at second while Johnston scored. | Engineers 1, Seahawks 0

  • B3 - After Sam Franceschi walked and advanced to second on a ground out, Emily Lane singled her to third base and subsequently stole second. Olivia Saccocio had an RBI ground out and Lane later scored on a wild pitch. Emily Cronin had reached on a base on balls and scored when her batterymate, Emma Plourde, singled up the middle to draw the Seahawks within one.
