Anchorwomen allow one run in Seahawks' home opener pair

NEWPORT, R.I. (Tuesday, March 26, 2024)-- Salve Regina University softball held their 2024 season home opener against Rhode Island College on Toppa Field and capitulated 9-0 in game one, and 10-1 in game two. 

After the 9-0 shutout in the first game Anchorwomen's Abby Kidd went down as the winning pitcher. Seahawks' Alex Kelly (East Meadow, N.Y.) pitched five innings, allowed 11 hits and struck three batters out. Salve Regina successfully held off Rhode Island College until the top of the fourth inning, when catcher Brianna Bailey hit a two-run blast to center field. 

The Seahawks got on base twice in game one, the first time when Morganti Bello (Corte Madera, Calif.) singled to left field and stole second. The second instance Sam Franceschi (East Haven, Conn.) singled down the left field line. 

In the bottom of the third of game two it was Maddie Capetta (Raritan, N.J.) who doubled off a pitch from Rhode Island College's Taylor Babcock and allowed Kylie Lanteri (Berlin, Conn.) to get home for the Seahawks one RBI.

Salve Regina will return to action against Johnson & Wales University on Thursday, March 28, at Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex in Providence, Rhode Island. Game one of the doubleheader will begin at 3 p.m.
