NEWPORT, R.I. (May 15, 2019) -- For the second straight season, Salve Regina University senior softball shortstop Amanda Riley (Barrington, N.H.) has been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches' Association (NFCA) All-New England Region Team.

Riley had career highs in hits (55), runs scored (30), triples (five), and tied her career-best with 12 stolen bases (same as last year) while leading the Seahawks into the championship round of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) softball tournament for the third time in four seasons.

As in the past, the squad is comprised of three 15-player teams — plus voting ties — in each of the country's eight NCAA regions.

Three schools placed the maximum six players on their respective All-Region team, including top-ranked Virginia Wesleyan, which won the last two Division III championships before being upset in last weekend's NCAA regionals. The (42-6) Marlins had two players apiece on the first team, one on the second team, and three on the third team in the Atlantic Region.

The other two teams are both in the West Region. Texas-Tyler had four of its six nominees chosen for the first team, while Linfield placed two players on each of the three squads.

Those with five players selected were Trine in the Central Region; Manhattanville and Rowan in the East; Illinois Wesleyan in the Great Lakes; Central, Luther and St. Thomas in the Midwest; Williams in New England; Ithaca and Rensselaer Polytechnic in the Northeast; and Texas Lutheran in the West.

Twelve schools had four players chosen, while 21 schools had three selections apiece. Forty-nine other schools had two on the list, and 77 had one player chosen.

All-Region players are nominated and selected by NFCA member coaches in each of the eight Division III regions. First team All-Region choices are eligible for selection to the NFCA All-America team, which will be announced the evening of May 22 online at NFCA.org and in person at the NCAA Division III Championship banquet in Tyler, Texas.
