NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina University softball team earned the No. 4 seed and will play No. 5 seed Roger Williams University in the first game of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) tournament at Toppa Field on Thursday, May 2 (2 p.m.).

  • The Roger Williams University softball team defeated Nichols College this Sunday in a doubleheader on Senior Day winning the first game 1-0 and the second game 7-4.
  • The seniors recognized were Micaela Pohl (Middleboro, Mass.), Amanda Boulter (Wakefield, Mass.), Bella Malvinni (Westerly, R.I.), Hailey Prechtel (Glenmont, N.Y.) and Elizabeth Lombardo (Thomaston, Conn.).

HAWKS HERALDS

  • Two Hawks were named to the All-CCC teams on Wednesday - senior Elizabeth Lombardo and sophomore Sydney Provencal (Cumberland, R.I.)
  • The Hawks swept a pair from the Seahawks in the regular season, 3-1 and 8-2, on April 18.

  • Sophomore Andi Nelson headlined the All-CCC awards for the Seahawks as she earned Pitcher of the Year honors.
  • Nelson joined senior shortstop Amanda Riley on the All-CCC first team.
  • Three Seahawks were named to the second team - seniors Lindsey Florent (New Bedford, Mass.) and Holly Kathios (Pelham, Mass.), and junior Maddie Machado (Westport, Mass.).
  • Jaycee Garrigan (Uxbridge, Mass.) and Nikki Vanelli (Quakertown, Pa.) rounded out the Salve Regina honorees with third team selections.
  • Salve Regina went 0-4 against the two teams in its pod (Roger Williams, Endicott).
  • Salve Regina won the CCC titles in 2016 and 2017.

WHAT'S UP NEXT

  • The victor of today's game will face top seeded Endicott College on Friday, while the loser also returns to Beverly, Mass., on Friday for an elimination round.
