Bio

Michael Komar begins his fourth year as the full-time assistant coach of the Salve Regina University sailing program in 2011-12.

Komar helped the Seahawks gain local and national attention as former sailor and coach. He was an intrical part of the teams 12th place finish at the 2010 Intercollegiate Sailing Association/Gill Coed Dinghy Championships, which were held in Madison Wisconsin. Their trip north marked the first time in program history the team has ever qualified for the national championships, and they did not disappoint, finishing ahead of schools like Roger Williams, Georgetown, and South Florida, and Stanford.

Komar graduated Salve Regina in 2008 with a degree in Business Administration, and during that time has set many firsts for the sailing program. His strong collegiate sailing performances helped leap the team into the National rankings, after winning several intersectional A and B divisions. Since graduating Komar has continued to help the team grow to a well-respected nationally ranked team.

Outside of Salve Regina Komar sails International 5o5s and was awarded the 2010 North American 5o5 Under 25 Skipper of the Year. He also competed in the 2009 J24 World Championship on the U.S. J24 Youth Team and won Gold Medal at the Yngling Open World Championships in La Rochelle, France in 2006. Komar also sails Melges 24, 32s, and Lasers.
