NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University sailors roared back to capture third place this weekend at the first annual Sister Esther Open at the Seahawks' only home regatta of the Fall season.

In ninth place with almost half of the races completed, Salve Regina's Kyle Carney (New Bedford, Mass.) and Angelina Todaro (Ipswich, Mass.) put up impressive numbers in the top division to help propel the Seahawks to third place. Bob Lippincott (Oxford, Md.) and Baillie Lawless (Rochester, N.Y.) followed suit and finished in the top 10 boats in every race of the regatta.

The Seahawks showed key local knowledge and maintained solid composure as the tight fleet led to close results. Salve Regina was able to hold off Boston College who put up a late charge to bring them within two points. Also finishing behind the Seahawks was Roger Williams, Brown, University of Vermont and Connecticut College.

Off the water, Salve Regina welcomed guests to its new sailing center. Grills were fired up as Seahawk sailors cooked up burgers and hot dogs for competitors.

Assistant coach Michael Komar: "Salve Sailing was excited by all the support from the community. Alumni and friends came down for what turned out to be a great weekend to close the Fall season."

"Salve Regina is eager to travel to Hawaii this Winter to get some crucial off-season training and come back strong in the Spring and make another push for the National Championship."
