Seahawks compete at Captain Hurst Bowl and Great Herring Pond Open

Salve Regina had five sailors contribute to a 16th-place finish at the Captain Hurst Bowl hosted by Dartmouth College.

HANOVER, N.H. - This weekend the Salve Regina sailing team competed in the Captain Hurst Bowl at Dartmouth College. Over the two days, conditions were extremely challenging, with shifty winds gusting to 25 knots.

Salve Regina senior skipper Peter Pellegrini (Kingston, Mass.) and crews Mary Margaret Clawson (Maplewood, N.J.) and Sarah Muzyka (South Yarmouth, Mass.) were able to battle the 22-team fleet to secure a hard earned 11th-place finish in A Division.

In B Division, junior Kyle Carney (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and sophomore Mary Zeolla (Simi Valley, Calif.) fought hard but continued to get unfortunate breaks. They still were able to sail top ten finishes to keep the team in the battle for a single digit finish against the top teams from around the country.

After battling over the two days in the top ten, the team finally finished 16th overall, beating teams such as MIT, Northeastern, and Cornell.

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. - This weekend at Mass Maritime, the Salve Regina sailing team consisting of Bob Lippincott (Oxford, Md.), Jennifer Poole (), and Austin Schwarz () sailed in A-Division while Gena Marquardt (), Chris Jensen (Mountain View, Calif.), and Hayley Blundell (Taylor, Texas) sailed in B-Division.

Together the team had a solid performance in the shifty and blustery conditions at Mass Maritime besting nine teams from the New England district.

"We're seeing great improvement from this young and very competitive team" said head coach John Ingalls. "Together they are rapidly ascending the ranks of college sailing and they provide a bright outlook for the future of the Salve Regina sailing team."
