Seahawks catch Polar Bears in end for Penobscot Bay victory

CASTINE, Maine - Salve Regina sailing team won a come from behind victory in the Penobscot Bay Open at the Maine Maritime Academy in Castine, Maine this weekend. Over the two days, senior captain Peter Pellegrini (Kingston, Mass.) and freshmen crew Jenna Marquardt dominated A division with a 23-point victory over 16 other schools.

A combined effort from skippers junior Kyle Carney (Huntington Beach, Calif.), sophomore Bob Lippincott (Oxford, Md.) and junior crew Mary Zeolla (Simi Valley, Calif.) helped pull out a late win over the Bowdoin Polar Bears who were leading over the majority of the two days.

Salve Regina overtook top level teams such as Tufts University, Dartmouth College, and Boston University to qualify for the Danmark Trophy, arguably the largest intersectional in college sailing, at the Coast Guard Academy October 1-2.
