Jutras, Lynch pace Seahawks at UMass Dartmouth Invitational

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. (September 21, 2019) -- Senior Brett Jutras (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and junior captain Aidan Lynch (Little Silver, N.J.) were the frontrunners for Salve Regina at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday.

Jutras and Lynch split the opening mile in 5:37 and were just seconds apart for most of the race on the flat, fast 8K course on the campus of UMass Dartmouth. The field of 257 included a mix of Division I, Division II and Division III competition.

Seniors Tanner Owens (Long Beach, N.Y.), Chandler Da Cruz (Middletown, R.I.) and Brendan Kelly (Lynbrook, N.Y.) completed the scoring for the Seahawks. Salve Regina placed 32nd of 36 complete teams.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute placed all five of its scorers inside the top 20 to win the team title with a score of 61. UMass Lowell finished second with 83, and Trinity College was third with 88. Trinity senior Weyessa McAlister won the race with a time of 24:46.5.

The Seahawks did not have a full scoring lineup in the sub-varsity race. UMass Lowell was the top team in the opening race of the day, placing all five scorers in the top 10 to win with a tally of 19. UMass Lowell freshman Anshel Isles topped the field of 167 with a time of 26:47.0. The Salve Regina finisher was:
