Seahawks finish fourth at Tri-State Invitational

LINCOLN, R.I. - Senior captain Sean Hughes (Old Saybrook, Conn.) earned a top-10 finish to lead Salve Regina in the Tri-State Invitational at the Community College of Rhode Island on Saturday. Hughes covered the grass-and-trail layout in 27:58.95 to place seventh in the field of 103 runners.

Sophomore Andrew Sardelli (Hope Valley, R.I.) was again the No. 2 man for the Seahawks, crossing the finish line at 29:00.88. Sardelli was 82 seconds faster than his previous performance at CCRI. Freshman Tyler Lancaster (Warwick, R.I.) ran at No. 3, finishing at 29:05.52.

Sophomore David Napierkowski (Cheshire, Conn.) and senior captain Slater Roosa (Woodbury, Conn.) rounded out the scoring at 29:45.77 and 30:10.95. Sophomores Scott Brewer (Palmer, Mass.) and Austin Sattler (Guilford, Conn.) were the sixth and seventh runners, finishing at 30:52.32 and 30:53.62.

The Wentworth Institute of Technology took three of the top four spots overall and placed its other two scorers inside the top 20 to take the team title with a score of 36 points. (The Leopards also won the team title at CCRI in 2014.) Bridgewater State University was second with 76 points, and Roger Williams was third with 79. Salve Regina posted a team score of 115 to place fourth out of 12 teams. Wentworth sophomore Patrick Hopkins won the individual title with a time of 27:02.39.
