Advantage Seahawks in doubles, but Gulls come back with four singles

BEVERLY, Mass. (March 30, 2022) – The Endicott College men's tennis team bested Salve Regina University, 6-3, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Wednesday evening at the South Campus Tennis Courts.

A pair of freshmen and a pair of graduate students staked the Seahawks to a 2-1 lead. At No. 1 doubles, Alex Colon (Brielle, N.J.) and Sam Middleton (Lake Grove, N.Y.) took an 8-3 decision before Alexander Azary (Shelton, Conn.) and John Leonard (Redding, Conn.) won 8-6 at No. 3 doubles. 

After falling behind 2-1 at the conclusion of doubles, the Gulls responded with four straight victories in singles to come away with the crucial league victory.

Hudson De Risi (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) tied up the match at 2-2 with a decisive 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 6.

From there, Collin Dinardo (Westport, Mass.) won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3, Julian Richtarich (Naples, Fla.) posted a 6-3, 6-2 triumph at No. 2, and Brayden Allen (North Kingstown, R.I.) clinched the match at No. 4 via a 6-1, 6-4.

Two other matches were decided in third-set, 10-point tiebreaks. Sam Middleton won his second set to force a third, but fell 10-7 in the tiebreak. Sophomore Jack Cooper (Sandwich, Mass.) grabbed the final Seahawk point when he rallied from a 6-1 first frame setback to take the next two sets in tiebreaks.
