Tusler to guide Seahawk men's tennis

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University director of athletics Colin Sullivan named Cory Tusler (Wellesley, Mass.) the ninth head men's tennis coach in the history of the school's program.

"I am pleased to welcome Coach Tusler to the Seahawk family. Cory has a solid background of collegiate coaching and recruiting experience and I look forward to having him lead our men's tennis program into the future."

Cory Tusler served as the head tennis coach at Bentley University for 14 seasons (1991-2005) compiling a 195-89 record. His men's teams achieved the Northeast-10 (NE-10) regular season championship in 1991, 1993, 1995, and the NE-10 playoff crown in 1996. Bentley men's tennis players made two appearances in the NCAA tournament in 1995 and 1996. Tusler was the voted the Northeast-10 coach of the year in 1995.

Tusler assisted the men's tennis program at Boston University in 2005-06. In the spring of 2007, Tusler launched Wheelock College's inaugural tennis program, was voted tennis coach of the year for the North Atlantic Conference, and achieved his 200th career win as a head tennis coach.

Prior to Bentley University, Tusler served as the assistant women's tennis coach at Harvard University, and was instrumental in leading the Harvard Crimson to an Ivy League title. Tusler was an advisor and member of the first coaching staff that directed the launch of The College Tennis Academy in Tampa, Fla. Prior to Harvard, Tusler was the assistant head coach at Wellesley College where his team won the Seven Sisters' championship title.

Tusler's first job as a tennis director / head tennis professional was at the Sportsmen's Tennis Club of Dorchester, Mass., where he was in charge of the junior development program. Eight of his tournament players were granted the opportunity to serve as student/tennis ambassadors to a sister club in Moscow. He also coached the USTA New England National 14s and 16s zonal team in the summer of 1999. Many of his players went onto distinguished collegiate careers. 

In the private club sector, Tusler has served at the Ferncroft Country Club as tennis professional. During the summers of 2008 and 2009, he was the host professional to World Team Tennis and the Boston Lobsters. As the host tennis professional, he assisted the 2008 Boston Lobsters' coaching/management staff with player warm ups and coaching as well as stadium/venue set up, hospitality and event management.

In 2009, he was called upon to teach tennis to several marquee players of the Boston Red Sox and their families at Red Sox captain Jason Varitek's annual celebrity charity event at the country club.

Tusler is a graduate of Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, N.H., where he played varsity tennis for three years and skied Alpine and Nordic for four years, serving as captain during his senior year. Tusler continued his education at Lyndon State College.

After graduation, Tusler attended Van der Meer Tennis University, and went on to become a USPTA Certified Professional and mentor to many student-athletes. He is also a former member of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA)/NCAA Division II Ranking Committee.

Tusler will also assist the Seahawk women's tennis program with head coach Ed Habershaw.
