Seahawk men's soccer slate includes NEWMAC debut

2023 Salve Regina Men's Soccer Schedule

NEWPORT, R.I. – Salve Regina University men's soccer head coach Craig O'Rourke II embraces the opportunity to lead his squad against 10 new opponents on his 2023 schedule.

"As with the start of any new season, we will need to rely heavily on our roster's leadership and that will come from our trio of senior captains in fifth-year centerback Nathan Costantino, left back Evan Arpin, and midfield playmaker Jordan Borges," says the 17-year veteran. "Their ability to lead this roster through pre-season and help infuse our new talent into the fold will be critical as we prepare for NEWMAC play in mid to late September. The fact that we are playing 10 new opponents this season represents a great deal of volatility, as opposed to our 2022 schedule, but also a great deal of opportunity as these new opponents will not be familiar with us or the brand of possession-based attacking soccer that we try to play. It will be a new and exciting season for us and Seahawk nation!"

The fall slate features 18 matches including 10 on the turf of the Toppa Field Complex at Freebody Park, and 10 non-conference tilts in addition to eight New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contests. After opening with seven non-league foes, the Seahawks host MIT in their first-ever match as a NEWMAC member (Sept. 23). The last time the Seahawks and Engineers met in men's soccer was on the grass at Reynolds Field on the Salve Regina campus in 2014, with MIT earning a 1-0 victory.
