CCC Defensive Player of the Week: Nathan Costantino

Nathan Costantino was named CCC Defensive Player of the Week.

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) has selected Salve Regina University senior back Nathan Costantino (North Andover, Mass.) as it Defensive Player of the Week for men's soccer.

Costantino was a constant presence in the Salve Regina backline this week, playing all 270 minutes in the Seahawks' 3-0 week. He and the Seahawks defense opened the week with a 1-0 shutout of Bridgewater State. They then picked up two CCC victories, limiting both Western New England and Nichols to one goal apiece. The Seahawks defense currently leads the conference in goals-against average at 1.00 so far this season. In addition to his defensive efforts, Costantino also got forward to finish a goal against the Bison.

"Nathan has been a stalwart in our backline ever since he arrived on campus as a freshmen in the fall of 2019," said head coach Craig O'Rourke II. "And in that season, he started every game for us and helped us to sweep the conference titles and go back to the NCAA National Championships.  This season in addition to being a perennial presence in our starting eleven, he is now serving as a team captain and has been called upon to be an outspoken leader to our entire roster.  I think his work-rate, leadership, and commitment to both the program and it's success on the field are a big part of what make him the type of player and captain that he is and have garnered him the respect and admiration of our younger players and veterans alike."

Salve Regina (8-2-4, 4-1-1 CCC) hosts Roger Williams on Wednesday, OCtober 19, in another CCC matchup at 7:00 p.m.
