Kelly, Guerra, Oggiano selected to All-Region II

NEWPORT, R.I. (November 29, 2021) - The United Soccer Coaches organization (formerly known as the National Soccer Coaches Association of America – NSCAA)  announced the 2021 All-Region Teams and Salve Regina University graduate student back Casey Kelly (Waldwick, N.J.) was selected to the First Team for the second time. Fellow graduate student midfielder Jacob Guerra (Colchester, Conn.) and senior striker Alessandro Oggiano (Stoughton, Mass.) earned Second Team nods.

Salve Regina head coach Craig O'Rourke II -

"I am very happy to see each of these young men receive this award and distinction as I truly believe, in my heart, that they each deserve to have their name hang on our 'Wall of Honor' in the men's soccer office. Within the program, we joke that the award season should just be renamed the 'Casey Kelly season' as he is up for virtually every award possible again this year, from all-conference to all-region to All-American. As of today, Jordan Elster '19 is still the most decorated player in Salve Regina men's soccer history as he hung six plaques in the Rodgers Recreation Center during his junior and senior seasons and became the first All-American in program history. But with this First Team All-Region selection, Casey now moves within one plaque of tying Elster's record and I think most of us, including Jordan himself, are expecting Casey to inevitably surpass Jordan's mark and take over the mantle of 'Most Decorated Player' in program history."

"For Alessandro, this award has been a long time in the making as he has shown his real quality these last two seasons and distinguished himself as one of the premier target strikers in New England college soccer. But to be completely honest, he is so much more than just a final touch target striker. His ability to drop in and receive the ball in the midfield third and allow us to play through him as we change the field of play and point of attack is beyond measure. We will really miss him and his abilities when we next take the field for competition in the 2022 season."

"And I can safely say that our alumni are nothing short of elated to see Jacob Guerra finally receive the recognition that he deserves. 'G' has been nothing short of brilliant for us these past few seasons and what he did in the post-season this year and the numbers that he put up in each and every boxscore are a real testament to his quality both as a student-athlete and as a real difference-maker on the field of play. We have had members of our last three graduating classes point to the 'Wall of Honor' in the office and say 'Guerra's name belongs up there.' And I am so happy that with this award his name, along with the Italian Stallion (Oggiano) and Superman (Kelly), will forever be immortalized as one of the greats in Salve Regina men's soccer history."
