MEN'S SOCCER ALL-CCC HISTORY

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) announced its 2021 Men's Soccer All-Conference Teams and major award winners Thursday morning. Eight CCC schools were represented on this year's list. Endicott and Roger Williams each had seven honorees, the most at a single institution.

Roger Williams' Javi Beltran (Madrid, Spain) was the winner of this season's Offensive Player of the Year award, while Salve Regina's Casey Kelly (Waldwick, N.J.) was selected as the Defensive Player of the Year for the second time in his career. That was not the only award Kelly would take home, however, as he was also named the CCC Scholar-Athlete. Endicott's Joe Mepham (Sudbury, Mass.) was named the Rookie of the Year and his coach Joe Calabrese was voted the Coach of the Year. Gordon and the University of New England were both named Team Sportsmanship award winners.

Voting for the All-CCC Teams and major awards was conducted by the 10 CCC men's soccer head coaches following the conclusion of the regular season.

Mepham, Beltran, and Kelly were all also named to the All-CCC First Team filling in one of the forward, midfield, and back positions, respectively. Beltran was joined on the First Team by two of his Roger Williams teammates as back Niall Shea (Portsmouth, R.I.) and goalkeeper Jack Avellar (Orleans, Mass.) were both selected. Gordon also had three All-CCC First Team honorees with forward Chase Gwynn (Apopka, Fla.), midfielder Luckson Dambo (Belmont, Mass.), and back Casey Torres (Atlanta, Ga.) earning spots. Salve forward Alessandro Oggiano (Stoughton, Mass.), Suffolk midfielder Nigel Leo (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.), and Endicott back Charles Badji (Dakar, Senegal) completed the All-CCC First Team.

There were 13 members of the All-CCC Second Team with Endicott, Salve Regina, and Roger Williams each having three selections. Representing the Gulls were midfielder Hayden Laske (Wethersfield, Conn.), back Camden Rigney (Wilbraham, Mass.), and goalkeeper Zach Regulbuto (Somers, Conn.). The Seahawks named as Second Teamers were midfielders Jordan Borges (Milford, Mass.) and Rich Ventura (Floral Park, N.Y.) and back James Davies (London, England). The trio of Hawk Second Team selections included forward Justin Horvath (Stratford, Conn.), midfielder Tyler Andrade (South Glastonbury, Conn.), and back Austin Hilger (Old Saybrook, Conn.). The remaining members of the All-CCC Second Team included duos from Wentworth and Western New England. Forward Nathan Gosselin (Hudson, N.H.) and back John Dauphin (Yorba Linda, Calif.) were the Leopards recognized, while forward Mike Milazzo (Old Lyme, Conn.) and midfielder Sean O'Neill (Belchertown, Mass.) were the Golden Bears picked.

There were four forwards named the All-CCC Third Team. They were Curry's Ryan Brady (Weymouth, Mass.), Salve Regina's Jacob Guerra (Colchester, Conn.), Suffolk's Brady Sorensen (Plymouth, Mass.), and Roger Williams' Jack Wetzel (Northport, N.Y.). In the Third Team midfield were Cole Elgin (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) from Endicott, Ryan Firmin (Gorham, Maine) from Wentworth, and Giovanni Martins (Brockton, Mass.) from Curry. Rounding out the All-CCC Third Team were backs Andrew Crean (Victor, N.Y.) from Western New England, Dayton Crocker (Potsdam, N.Y.) from Gordon, and Tiago Frazao (Trumbull, Conn.) from Endicott. They would play in front of Gordon goalkeeper Brody Veleber (Coatesville, Pa.).

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR/CCC SCHOLAR-ATHLETE

Casey Kelly, Salve Regina

Kelly picks up his second-straight CCC Defensive Player of the Year honor after winning the award in 2019. The Seahawks center back was a key piece to a defensive unit that earned five shutouts and averaged just over one goal-allowed per game.

However, Kelly's accomplishments were not limited to the pitch as he also racked up a number of academic honors during his time in Newport. He completed his bachelor's degree in financial management last May, graduating magna cum laude, and is currently working on an MBA in management. He has already been named to three CCC Academic All-Conference Teams and is expected to be honored again in 2021. He was also recognized as a United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American in 2019 and earned Salve Regina' McAuley Scholarship for academic merit. His time at Salve also included Dean's List recognition every semester and membership in the Pell Circle of Scholars Honors program. Kelly also held membership in the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society, Sigma Beta Delta International Honor Society for Business, Management, and Administration, and a number of other business and accounting clubs. He served as a team mentor and tutor and volunteered his time as a coach for the Newport Shooting Stars youth soccer program.
