Seahawks draw a 2-2 deadlock with Bears

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Coast Guard men's soccer drew a 2-2 tie with Salve Regina at home on Tuesday night. The Bears remain unbeaten at 5-0-1 on the season, while Salve is 2-3-1 on the year.

The Seahawks wasted no time, following a corner kick, Rich Ventura scored first for Salve in the second minute for a quick 1-0 lead.

The Bears tied it up 1-1 when senior Gabe Gallant scored off a free kick for his second goal of the season in the 26th minute.

Jordan Borges gave Salve a 2-1 lead in the 30th minute with his second goal of the season off a free-kick.

Senior Robbie Fugett took advantage of a Salve miscue to tie the game 2-2 in the 39th minute as the goalkeeper was caught outside of the box. 

The Seahawks held a 21-18 advantage in shots, including nine in the second half and three overall in overtime. Coast Guard had four shots in the second half and five in total during the two overtime periods. Both teams had six corner kicks. A very physical game, there were a total of 11 yellow cards between the two teams and 31 fouls.

Coast Guard junior goalkeeper John Vaaler made six saves and is now 2-0-1 on the season. Salve senior goalkeeper Nathan Reid had seven saves and is now 2-1-1 on his season.
