NEWPORT, R.I. - For the 10th time in 12 seasons, and seventh consecutive, the Salve Regina University men's soccer team has been announced as recipient of the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the previous (2020-21) academic year.

In order to qualify for the award, teams are required to record a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher. Same academic requirements as always, but the organization changed its name from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) five years ago.

"It's always nice to see our program honored with this national academic award again as it demonstrates our athletes commitment not only on the playing field, but in the classroom as well," says 15-year head coach Craig O'Rourke II. "All of our players know that this award is a major tool in our recruiting process in that we can point to this sustained degree of academic excellence and help show the true value of a Salve Regina education."

The Salve Regina men's soccer team earned a 3.377 cumulative team grade point average for the 2020-2021 academic year. A total of 648 soccer teams (240 men, 408 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the 2020-21 academic year.
