NEW LONDON, Conn. (September 17, 2019) -- Graduate student Dana Sundell (Nantucket, Mass.) scored a first-half goal to lift Salve Regina University men's soccer over Coast Guard, 1-0, on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action. The Bears are now 3-3, while Salve improves to 3-2-1.

Salve Regina scored the lone goal of the game in the 39th minute as freshman Sam Winiarski (Westfield, Mass.) brought the ball down towards the left corner and connected a cross to Sundell at the far post to put away his third goal of the season. Salve Regina outshot the Bears 7-3 in the opening half.

Coast Guard had their best chance of the game in the 80th minute where they had three consecutive shots on goal from freshman John DiTommaso and sophomore Robbie Fugett. The initial shot by DiTommaso was saved and Fugget collected the rebound but Seahawks freshman goalkeeper Seth Wolins (Wake Forest, N.C.) came up with an unbelievable stop. Wolins let up another rebound that was picked up with another shot by Fuggett but Wolins shut down the third shot in a row and held off the Bears offense to maintain the 1-0 lead.

Junior James Morrison had four saves in the loss for the Bears and is now 1-1 on the season. Wolins had six saves in the shutout for Salve Regina and is now 1-0-1.

Coast Guard outshot Salve, 13-10 including nine in the second half and Salve Regina had a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
