MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – Junior forward Matt Farrell (Groveland, Mass.) scored on a header to give the Worcester Polytechnic Institute men's soccer team a 2-1 victory over Salve Regina University in the final minute of overtime Wednesday night at Gaudet Field.

Salve Regina led the game 1-0 on a goal by Richie Finizio (Fort Lee, N.J.). After a corner kick was headed out by the Engineers, Richie Leister (Navesink, N.J.) fed the ball back to Kyle Knoth (East Islip, N.Y.). Knoth touched it Finizio who quickly let a shot fly from 10 yards out that sailed to the back of the net past a diving Jordan Finzel (Northport, N.Y.).

The Seahawks carried the 1-0 lead deep into the second half, but a foul call gave the Engineers a free kick from 22 yards out. Seahawks keeper Bryan McCormack (Narragansett, R.I.) made the initial save but could not control the rebound allowing Chris Murray (Canton, Mass.) to tie the game for WPIin the 67th minute.

The Seahawks finished the half with a flurry of chances but were not able to find the back of the net.

In overtime the Engineers' goal was the result of a corner kick that was headed twice before Farrell was able to head it to the back of the net for the game winner amongst a crowd of players.
