NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University men's soccer senior Alex Wasilewski (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) has been selected to join the 2015 USA D-3 Soccer Select Team – Brazil Tour.

Wasilewski has been invited to join the USA D-3 Soccer Select Team due to the recognition he has received by the NCAA and the CCC, as well as his All-Region status. The program seeks the best of the best soccer players NCAA Division III has to offer.

Orientation and practice for the tour begin in May in Orlando, Florida. From there, the select team will fly to Sao Paulo, Brazil, for its first few games. Rio de Janeiro will be the next stop for the team as they finish off their schedule.

Though the tour is heavily based on the opportunity for the selected players to compete in high-level matches, the team members will also be presented with educational, social, and cultural outreach opportunities within the communities visited. The tour sponsors visits to schools, soccer clubs, and historical sites throughout Brazil, as well as a chance to tour Christ the Redeemer Statue and Sugar Loaf Mountain. The selected members will also see the existing venues used for the 2014 World Cup and the building of new ones for the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Wasilewski was a four-year forward on men's soccer program. He had been a consistent offensive threat for the Seahawks over his four seasons, tallying 20 goals and seven assists for 47 points. In his junior year in 2013, he set a career high in goals (seven) while he set his career high in scoring (18 points) during his senior season in 2014 with six goals and six assists. In his last season, Wasilewski was also named All-CCC first team and NSCAA All-New England Region fourth team.

"I'm happy to see that Alex is going to continue his playing career after college," says Seahawk head coach Craig O'Rourke II. "He and I have discussed opportunities and tryouts within the PDL, and I think this Brazil Tour with the USA D-3 Soccer Select Team will help prepare him for the rigors of those tryouts."

Wasilewski's hard work and high-level performance over his four years as a Seahawk has definitely paid off. The entire athletic department wishes him the best of luck and once again congratulates him on his selection onto the USA D-3 Soccer Select Team.
