Seahawks-Monks go 110 minutes for 1-1 tie

BRISTOL, R.I. - In second-round action of the Squad Locker Classic, Salve Regina University and St. Joseph's College of Maine battled to a 1-1 tie in double overtime.

All-tournament selection Kyle Shangraw (Westbrook, Maine) scored the first goal of the game for St. Joseph's (Maine) in the 22nd minute. He corralled a long pass and fired a shot from outside the box that deflected off of a Salve Regina defender and into the back of the net.

Salve Regina responded shortly into the second half. Alvaro Castillo (Duxbury, Mass.) gained possession and bounced a shot over the keeper to tie the game in the 48th minute.

Salve Regina was able to gain momentum in the overtime periods, outshooting the Monks 7-2 over the extra 20 minutes. However the game ended in a stalemate before another goal could be scored.

Salve Regina's Daniel Stern (Kings Park, N.Y.) had six saves in the game while Scott Benner (Post Falls, Idaho) stopped three shots for St. Joseph.
