NEWPORT, R.I. – Salve Regina University senior Ian Jentgen (Columbus, Ohio) and junior Brian Sweeney (Waldoboro, Maine) have been selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) 2011 College Division Men Scholar All-East Region Team. Jentgen was announced as a member of the second team, while Sweeney earned honorable mention recognition.

In order to be nominated for this honor, student-athletes must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average, start more than 50 percent of all games, be a significant contributor to their team, and earn at least junior academic standing.

Jentgen and Sweeney were among six members of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) to be named to the team, with Jentgen earning the highest honor among all CCC players. In addition, Salve Regina University was one of only two CCC schools to have multiple players honored.

Jentgen has compiled a 3.56 grade point average and is one of just 10 members of the All-East Region Team to earn the honor twice. He was a Team Captain for the Seahawks this season as well as one of the driving forces steering their defense. Jentgen is on his way to completing his degree in financial management.

Sweeney recorded an impressive 3.80 GPA while playing in 16 of Salve Regina's 19 contests this season. The junior midfielder is currently working toward his degree in international studies.

"I am very happy to see both Brian and Ian be recognized in this manner," says Salve Regina men's soccer head coach Craig O'Rourke II. "I strongly feel that they both embody the term 'student-athlete.'  Their commitment in the classroom, as well as on the playing field, is exemplarily and they are both major contributing factors to our team winning the NSCAA Team Academic Achievement Award earlier this year."
