Endicott edges Salve Regina, 4-3

NEWPORT, R.I. - Senior midfielder Nick Goldman (South Windsor, Conn.) spoiled a comeback attempt by Salve Regina University men's soccer with a goal in the 78th minute as Endicott College held on for a 4-3 victory in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action today.

Seahawk freshman midfielder Zachary Kraft (Tenafly, N.J.) led the comeback charge when Salve Regina (4-4-1; 1-2-1 CCC) trailed by two goals midway through the second half. Kraft scored at 66:22 with an assist from senior Sean McAllister (North Arlington, N.J.), and then again at 73:03 with another senior helping the cause, forward Christopher Knoth (East Islip, N.Y.).

McAllister, who had tied the score at 1-1 in the first half, moved within one point of the school's all-time scoring mark for men's soccer (87 points - Eric Zimmer, 2003-06).

Endicott's offense had struggled in its first nine games of the season, scoring a total of four goals. Senior forward Jared Rizzo (Peabody, Mass.) scored the game's first goal for a 1-0 lead at 9:08.

After intermission, freshman midfielder Ben Streib (Ellington, Conn.) gave the Gulls a 3-1 lead with a pair of goals at 46:54 and 54:23, his second and third goals of the season. Kraft's two goals tied the score at 3-3, but Goldman ended the tie just four minutes later.

Salve Regina's Zachary Harlan (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) and his Endicott counterpart, Aaron Kanter (Medfield, Mass.), both faced seven shots on goal. Carter turned in one more save than Harlan, but it was a defensive save by his junior back Michael MacLeay (Epping, N.H.) that kept the Seahawks from tying the score after Goldman's goal.

Endicott (2-6-2; 1-2-1 CCC) returns home to host St. Joseph's (Me.) on Tuesday after the Seahawks play a non-league contest at Johnson & Wales University on Monday (3:30 p.m.).
