McAllister tabbed Offensive POW for third time in 2010; Charland named ROW

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University junior Sean McAllister (North Arlington, N.J.) has been named The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Offensive Player of the Week for the third time in five weeks while freshman Patrick Charland (Duxbury, Mass.) has been tabbed Rookie of the Week.

McAllister scored three goals and assisted on two others as the Seahawks (11-3-1, 8-1-1 TCCC) went 3-0 last week and outscored their opponents 10-0. He earned a pair of game-winning goals in 4-0 victories over TCCC members Anna Maria on Tuesday and New England College on Saturday. Between conference matches, McAllister tallied a goal and an assist in a 2-0 win over in-state rival Johnson & Wales. He leads the team in goals (11), assists (13), and points.

Charland, meanwhile, helped limit Salve Regina opponents to seven shots on goal while playing 264 of a possible 270 minutes in the backfield.

McAllister's selection marks the fifth time in seven weeks a Salve Regina student-athlete has captured TCCC Offensive POW honors; Senior Ken Johnson (Colonia, N.J.) and junior Nicodemo Camarda (Burlington, N.J.) have also received the honor in 2010.

"I'm very happy to see both Sean and Patrick (right) win these awards," said Seahawks head coach Craig O'Rourke II. "McAllister has been nothing short of spectacular for us this season, and he just continues to be the best at imposing his will on a match. He really is that rare type of player who has the ability to go at goal at pace and possesses all of the tools to make it happen. Patrick Charland has been a great addition for us this year. Initially, we were bringing him along slowly and trying to insure that we gave him enough time to acclimate to our style and the speed-of-play in the college game. Since our Coast Guard match, however, he has been in our first 11 and we have not looked back. His steady play in our backline has been a tremendous asset to our team all season long."

The Seahawks return to action on Wednesday when they host Western New England at Brother Michael Reynolds Field at 3:30 p.m.
