Seahawks blank Eastern Nazarene in TCCC action, 4-0

QUINCY, Mass. - Salve Regina University rallied late with three second half goals in route to a 4-0 shutout against TCCC opponent and host Eastern Nazarene College. Four different Seahawks scored while Salve Regina fired off 21 shots as a team Saturday afternoon.

Defense dominated the first 20 minutes of play as neither team was able to threaten to score. In the 21st minute, Salve Regina broke through as Sean McAllister (North Arlington, Mass.) sent a cross into the box where teammate Max Starace (Fort Lee, N.J.) was awaiting a pass. Starace gathered the pass and sent a shot into the back of the net for the game's first goal and his second of the season. Starace's goal wrapped up the scoring for the first half as Salve Regina led at the break, 1-0.

Salve Regina wasted no time adding to their lead in the second half as Nicodemo Camarda (Burlington, N.J.) took a pass from Renato Avelino in the box and tapped it in at the 49 minute mark. The Seahawks went on to add two more goals courtesy of Patrick Vierengel (Armonk, N.Y.) and Jacob Brigandi Vernon, Conn.) as Salve Regina rode its late offense to the 4-0 victory.

"This was an interesting match in that we were facing something new in Eastern Nazarene's aggressive offside trap," said Seahawks head coach Craig O'Rourke II. "I thought that initially we did well with dealing with the trap, but were just missing the final touch on the ball in the attacking third. Then in the second half, we started to run more of our midfielders through and I thought that produced a better degree of success. The reserves who entered the match in the second half - like Patrick Vierengel, James Mosca, and Jacob Brigandi - all made very positive impacts on the match and helped us to secure this result."

McAllister led all players with five shots. Semba Mwitanti and Patrick Flint led Eastern Nazarene with two shot apiece. Eastern Nazarene goalkeeper Andrew Trice led the game with three saves.

With the win, Salve Regina climbs to 8-3-1 and 6-1-1 in the TCCC while the loss drops the Lions to 1-10 on the season and 0-8 in conference play.
