SALVE REGINA UNIVERSITY SEAHAWKS

Seahawks record second-consecutive 4-0 win, this one over Anna Maria

PAXTON, Mass. - The Salve Regina University men's soccer team scored four times in the second half to snap Anna Maria College's three-game winning streak during The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) action during Senior Night at AMCAT. The win now gives the Seahawks a three-game run of their own, improving their record to 9-3-1 (7-1-1 TCCC), while the AMCATS fall to 3-11 (2-7 TCCC) on the season.

Anna Maria seniors Joshua Bernardo (Peabody, Mass.) and John Barbale (Charlton, Mass.) were honored before the start of their final home game. Bernardo, a Criminal Justice major, was a four-year varsity member of the men's soccer team and was elected as a Team Captain this season. Barbale, a Business major, has been a two-sport athlete at Anna Maria College, spending two seasons as a member of both the men's soccer and basketball teams. Both were thanked for their numerous contributions to the Athletic Department and the College.

Salve Reggina junior Sean McAllister (North Arlington, N.J.) paved the way for the Seahawks, collecting both a goal and an assist while taking a game-high nine shots on the night. Senior Ken Johnson (Colonia, N.J.), junior Nicodemo Camarda (Burlington, N.J.), and freshman James Mosca (Deep River, Conn.) each added goals for the Seahawks, while senior Billy Carroll (West Gilgo Beach, N.Y.), sophomore Jacob Brigandi (Vernon, Conn.), and junior Ian Jentgen (Columbus, Ohio) all dished out an assist in the win. Sophomore goalie Devin O'Gorman (Canton, Mass.) earned the victory in net for the Seahawks while making three saves in the match.

"This is a good result for us on the road considering that the 2010 season is now more than two-thirds complete," said Seahawks head coach Craig O'Rourke II. "I thought that we were the more dangerous team in the first half as we came close several times. We were just missing that final strike or touch on frame to steer the ball into our opponent's net. Then in the second half, I thought we found our stride and once we got the first goal, the next three just flowed nicely from all of our possession. In all, I thought Carroll was the real difference-maker tonight as he really stepped up his play from the previous matches."

Sophomore Enco Lika (Worcester, Mass.) led the AMCATS in shots on the night, while fellow sophomore Mike Dandurand (Warwick, R.I.) made a game-high 10 saves on the night.

Although Salve Regina controlled much of the action in the first half, including outshooting the AMCATS 17-4 and holding a 5-0 edge in corners, the match went into the intermission knotted at 0-0.

It didn't take long for the Seahawks to score in the second half, as McAllister blocked a clearing attempt from the AMC goalie before collecting the deflection and scoring the game's first goal.

The Seahawks then received tallies from Camarda in the 73rd minute, Mosca in the 80th minute, and Johnson in the 84th minute to seal the 4-0 win.

Salve Regina returns to the field on Thursday when they host Johnson & Wales at 7:00 pm, while AMCATS are back in action on Saturday, hitting the road to face Eastern Nazarene at 2:30 pm.
