Gordon extends shutout streak to seven matches with 1-0 win over Seahawks

NEWPORT, R.I. - Junior Micah Linn (Germantown, Tenn.) scored his first goal of the season early in the first half and sophomore Alex Sosler (Willoughby, Ohio) made two saves to lead the Gordon College men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Salve Regina University in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) action Tuesday afternoon at Reynolds Field.

The shutout extends the Fighting Scots (9-4-4, 8-1-4 TCCC) shutout streak to 514:34 - a span of more than seven matches - while stretching their unbeaten streak to seven (5-0-2). The loss drops the Seahawks to 12-5-1 (9-3-1 TCCC) and marks the first time they have lost consecutive matches since the first two contests of the season.

Gordon scored the only goal of the match 6:37 into the second half. Sophomore Kellen Kasiguran (Oakwood Village, Ohio) fed a pass through the box that Linn tapped in at the far right post at 51:37. The Gordon defense did the rest, limiting the Seahawks to one shot on goal the rest of the way.

Sophomore Devin O'Gorman (Canton, Mass.) made two saves for the Seahawks, who outshot the Fighting Scots 14-13 on the afternoon. The Seahawks received eight corner kicks in the first half compared to none for Gordon, and finished the afternoon with an 11-4 edge in that category. Senior Billy Carroll (W. Gilgo Beach, N.Y.) (above) and sophomore Bobby Ernst (Needham, Mass.) were each credited with a shot on goal for Salve Regina.

"Gordon is a very, very good side and while this is another heart-breaking loss for us, we can at least take some measure of comfort in the fact that we played well at times, took no injuries nor cards, and have everyone available for the conference tournament," said Salve Regina head coach Craig O'Rourke II. "Our focus now has to be on preparing ourselves for this Saturday's quarterfinal match."

The Seahawks and Fighting Scots both return to action on Saturday when they host a TCCC Quarterfinal match. Salve Regina's contest with begin at 1 p.m. at Reynolds Field.
