NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University sophomore Patrick Vierengel (Armonk, N.Y.) has been named The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.

Vierengel scored the lone goal in the Seahawks 1-0 win over Roger Williams in the first round of TCCC Championships on Saturday at Brother Michael Reynolds Field. Just over 15 minutes into the second half, junior Ian Jentgen (Columbus, Ohio) sent a free kick into the box that was played by sophomore Bobby Ernst (Needham, Mass.) over to Vierengel, who flicked the ball over the head of goalkeeper RWU senior Peter Plate (Commack, N.H.).

"Patrick was brillant for us this past Saturday against Roger Williams and I am very happy to see the conference recognize him like this," said head coach Craig O'Rourke. "The goal that he scored for us in the second half was a very savy bit of finishing and really demonstrates the level of striker that he is capable of being for us. I think we are just now starting to realize how extraordinarily capable he is as a finisher."

This is the first time Vierengel has garnered TCCC Player of the Week honors, and his selection marks the seventh time in nine weeks a Salve Regina student-athlete has captured TCCC Offensive POW honors this season. Junior Sean McAllister (North Arlington, N.J.) has taken home the award on four occasions while senior Ken Johnson (Colonia, N.J.) and junior Nicodemo Camarda (Burlington, N.J.) have also received the honor in 2010.

The No. 4 seed Seahawks return to action on Wednesday when travel to No. 1 seed Nichols College for a semifinal match at 4 p.m.
